Mitchell has created a delightful setting of this “Nutcracker Suite” favorite using handchimes in lieu of the orchestral ‘celeste’ in the melody. Tchaikovsky wanted this movement to “sound like drops of water shooting from a fountain…” The gently malleted bells provide the pizzicato-like support and work beautifully with the handchimes to produce a very similar effect!  Techniques include brush-damp, table mallet, and ring-touch. Gentle nuances and dynamics create even more magic.  This is a delight to ring and it is sure to be a lovely highlight in your holiday or any concert!
